András Törőcsik (1955-2022)
According to reliable information from several sources, András Törőcsik, former 45-time capped footballer of Újpesti Dózsa, had died at the age of sixty-seven. The family confirmed the sad news.

András Törőcsik died on Saturday in Honvéd Hospital due to pneumonia.

András Törőcsik was born on May 1, 1955, in Budapest.

He made 45 appearances for the Hungarian national team between 1976 and 1984 and scored 12 goals. He also participated in the 1978 and 1982 World Cups.

"In Zugló, in the area in front of the church on Kassai Square, I think we were the most diligent footballers, we would have liked to have played at night as well. In 1965, BVSC announced to scout player, the field was where the Millennium Underground Railway's terminal is. József Farkas took me under his wings first, then the new masters came. I learned a lot from Fábián, Jäger, and Mezey. I then suddenly got into the youth national team, and that's when I started hoping that I could maybe move up to NB I. What shall I say? I love football, the NB I and the national team caps happened because of this love,” he said before the World Cup in Argentina in response to a question about the squad's career start.

"András Törőcsik was more talented than Diego Maradona..."György Mezey, former head coach of the Hungarian national team, said about him.

BVSC-raised Törőcsik scored 69 goals in 236 appearances for Újpesti Dózsa between 1974 and 1985, after which he spent one season with Montpellier in France. After that, he played for Volán SC and MTK-VM.

He won three league titles with the Purple and Whites (1974–75, 1977–78, 1978–79) and three Hungarian Cups (1975, 1982, 1983).
