The first step of the ownership change of Újpest FC, that plays in the football NB I, has been completed – Roderick Duchâtelet and Zoltán Kovács have signed the sale and purchase contract, the club's website reported. However, the Belgian businessman only made an adumbrative statement about the future new owner.

"I am pleased to announce that I have recently signed a share purchase agreement for a majority stake in our beloved football club. This means that if certain payment deadlines are met, the ownership of the companies and therefore of the football club will also change in the near future," said Roderick Duchâtelet.

"Once this process is complete, Újpest FC will convene a press conference so that the new owner, who obviously does not need to be introduced, can explain in detail his plans for the future of our club. For my part, I very much hope that we can positively conclude this agreement, and if we succeed, I will definitely wish Kokó and his team the best in Újpest," the Belgian owner added.

The contract, of which Magyar Nemzet reported on Friday, and according to the portal, the announcement was delayed by one day, was signed by the excellent former forward and then sports director Zoltán Kovács on behalf of the new owners.

"We are at the doorstep of a new era that means a clean slate for the players, the fans, the management, and for everyone who cares about this club. After more than ten years, one of the most prestigious Hungarian clubs will return to Hungarian hands, and its relegation cannot happen now after a hundred and ten years of continuous topflight participation. That is why I ask everyone to do everything together so that this danger does not threaten us. Because we're Újpest together!" he said.

Nemzeti Sport has previously reported that the purchase of the club was negotiated by László Császár and János Oláh on behalf of SGF Silu Zrt. together with Zoltán Kovács. It's also NS's information is that if the sale is concluded, the prestigious club will have exclusively Hungarian owners.

The club promised to announce further details at a later date.
