Imre Szabics is leaving MOL Fehérvár FC's NB I football team, the club of Székesfehérvár announced on its official website.

According to the club, the parties terminated their contract by mutual agreement. Two of Imre Szabics's assistants, Roland Juhász and Sándor Torghelle, are also leaving Fehérvár.

Imre Szabics, 40, has managed Vidi since April 2021. Last season, the team finished 3rd in the national league, and won silver in the MOL Hungarian Cup.

After 20 rounds in the current NB I season, Fehérvár is in 4th place in the rankings, 12 points behind the leader Ferencváros, and ten points behind the third place, Kisvárda. In 2022, the Fejér county club lost all three of their league matches to Puskás Academy, Debrecen VSC, and Budapest Honvéd. In the Hungarian Cup, Fehérvár reached the final eight, and they will face second tier ETO FC to advance to the semifinals.

With Imre Szabics on the bench, Fehérvár played 34 games, of which they won 17 and lost 10.

And it turned out to be true that Szabics's successor will be Michael Boris, the former head coach of the Hungarian U21 national team and MTK Budapest.

The German professional has previously managed the Hungarian U19 and U21 national teams, and in May 2019, he became the head coach of MTK, which was still in the second division at the time. With the blue and whites, he first returned to the top division, and then last season, he finished 7th with them.

Boris became the Danish first-class SönderjyskE's trainer last summer, but after 17 matches, he was thanked for his work. The German coach was recently nominated for the bench of MTK, Kisvárda and Honvéd as well.

"I am very happy to be the coach of such a long-established club," molfehervarfc.hu quoted Michael Boris. "We had a lot of discussions with the club management before the agreement was reached, but it was not a difficult decision, as we are talking about Vidi, which has been a successful club on the domestic and the international stage in recent years. I have been following the Hungarian league for a while, I have also seen Újpest's previous matches, and now, the most important thing is to create unity and find the key to defeating Újpest until Sunday's match. The team has players with great qualities, and we need to show that on the pitch, but I'm sure this squad can achieve successes."
