The second item on the agenda, the presidential election, promised to be the most attention-grabbing stage of the general meeting held at the Larus Event Center in Budapest. The successor of Krisztián Kulcsár, who resigned effective January 31, was elected by the ordinary members of MOB. Zsolt Gyulay, President and CEO of Hungaroring Sport Zrt., a 57-year-old two-time Olympic champion sprint canoeist and delegate of the Hungarian Canoe Federation, and Balázs Hajdu, a 46-year-old lawyer and delegate of the Hungarian Yachting Association, also a multiple Olympian sailor, applied for the position.
The election was by secret ballot. The 48 MOB members present at the general meeting elected Zsolt Gyulay as the new president of MOB by a vote of 34:14, without abstentions. The term of office of the President runs from February 1, 2022, until the day of the General Assembly in 2024.
As we have written before, the elected President is immediately faced with a beautiful and noble task, as the flame will flare up in Beijing next Friday. The new leader will be able to cheer on the Hungarian winter Olympians on the spot, including the short track speed skaters who enter the ice with a chance of medals in several events.
