In recent weeks, Nemzeti Sport has also published several articles about Callum Styles, English second-division club Barnsley's midfielder of Hungarian origin. As The Sun reports, he will make his debut for the Hungarian national team in March after recently becoming a Hungarian citizen.

According to The Sun, Callum Styles will be in the Hungarian national team's squad in March for the pre-season matches against Serbia and Northern Ireland. The squad announcement is expected to be on March 14.

Based on its sources, the newspaper reports that the 21-year-old midfielder, who was born in England but is of Hungarian origin through his grandmother, has been working behind the scenes in recent months to obtain Hungarian citizenship. After this has succeeded, he will be able to play for the Hungarian national team in March. (It's another matter that citizenship alone is not a sufficient condition for the national team, but if one of his grandparents was born in Hungary, the rules already allow for simplified naturalization or country change.)

The article outlined the player's career who was called the "Bury Messi,” named after his hometown. The author notes that the midfielder, who's been playing at Barnsley since 2018, has already attracted the attention of several clubs (specifically Blackburn Rovers, Nottingham Forest, and New York Red Bulls), but this year could be a real breakthrough for him if he plays for Hungary in the Nations League against England, Italy, and Germany in June. He also adds that since Styles now has an EU passport thanks to his Hungarian citizenship, Brexit will not affect his career either, and he will not be considered a foreign player within the European Union if he decides to leave England.

Last April, we first wrote on Nemzeti Sport Online that Styles could be a Hungarian national team member. Then, a few weeks ago, head coach Marco Rossi also spoke about being ready to invite the player who can be used in several positions, in midfield and even as a wing-back.

Last week we introduced Styles in a detailed analysis, who has recently scored his second league goal against Hull City and has earned two goals in 31 English second-division matches this season. He has played 90 times in the Championship with seven goals and five assists.

After Willi Orbán, Loïc Négo and Norbert Könyves, Styles could be the next player in Marco Rossi's team since 2018 to make his Hungarian national team debut without being born in Hungary.

We also contacted the Hungarian Football Federation about the news and received the following response:

"Head coach Marco Rossi is responsible for commenting on the composition of the national team, which he will do March 14 the earliest, when the next squad is announced."
